THE END Part 11 The 144 000

Bradley Wareley

In this I will focus to the chapter 7 which records a divergence. A divergence is departure or deviation from a standard or expected path. While we shone a spotlight on the opening the Seals with the expectation of moving on the Trumpets, we find that God allows for a record of another event to be squeezed in between the 6th and 7th Seal. In that sense there is a Divergence from what was expected.

When you read chapter of Revelation you find the account of the 144 000. The question is who are they and what are their purpose?

Let's dive right into it.

The 144,000 mentioned in the book of Revelation hold a fascinating place in biblical prophecy. Let’s delve into their significance:

Identity:

  1. These 144,000 individuals are first introduced in Revelation 7:4. The passage states, “And I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.”

  2. Their identity is closely tied to the twelve tribes of Israel. They represent a select group of Jewish believers chosen for a specific purpose during the end times.

  3. These sealed ones bear the “Seal of God” on their foreheads, signifying their allegiance to Jesus and the Father.

  4. In contrast, there’s the “Mark of the Beast” on those who do not belong to the Lamb.

Their Purpose:

  1. The 144,000 play a vital role during the end times:

  2. They are dedicated to serving God and are protected by His seal (Revelation 7:2-3; 14:1).

  3. Their mission includes preaching the Gospel and leading many to Christ (Revelation 7:9-10).

  4. They stand as a vanguard (a position in the front), bearing the brunt of the struggle against the beast (Revelation 13:15+).

  5. Their refusal to worship the beast makes them witnesses to whom the dragon has access (Revelation 12:17+).

The Jehovah’s Witnesses Misconception

  • The Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that the 144,000 represent a limited number of people who will reign with Christ in heaven and spend eternity with God.

  • They refer to the group as having the "heavenly hope" (https://www.gotquestions.org/144000.html)

In conclusion, the 144,000 mentioned in the book of Revelation represent a significant divergence in the narrative, offering a pause for reflection and understanding. Their identity as Jewish believers from the twelve tribes of Israel, their purpose as servants of God, and their role in the end times are all elements that add depth and complexity to the biblical prophecy.

The divergence in the narrative serves to highlight the importance of these individuals and their role in God’s plan. It is a reminder that God’s plan often diverges from our expectations, leading us down paths that we may not have anticipated but that ultimately serve His divine purpose.

The misconceptions surrounding the 144,000, such as those propagated by the Jehovah’s Witnesses, underscore the importance of careful and thoughtful interpretation of the scriptures. It is crucial to approach these texts with an open mind and a willingness to delve deeper into their meanings.

As we continue to explore the book of Revelation and the many mysteries it holds, let us remember the 144,000 and the lessons they teach us about faith, service, and God’s divine plan. Let us strive to understand their significance and to apply these lessons to our own lives.

Thank you for joining me on this journey through the book of Revelation. I look forward to our continued exploration of these profound and complex scriptures. Until next time, may your studies bring you closer to understanding and peace.
