Faith at the Ballot Box: The Prophetic Voter

Bradley Wareley

When we talk about politics, people who believe in the Bible often have a special way of thinking. This is because they try to use the wisdom of the Bible in their daily lives. As voters and followers of Jesus, we have a special role to play.

Speaking Up in Politics

The Bible has many stories of prophets who were not afraid to speak up against powerful people. For example, Nathan spoke up against King David when he did something wrong (2 Samuel 12:1-15). John the Baptist also spoke up against Herod Antipas for his wrong marriage (Mark 6:18). These stories remind us that we should be brave and speak up when we see something wrong.

Voting is Important

When we vote, we are doing something very important. Jesus once said, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s” (Luke 20:25). This means that while we should respect our government, we should remember that God is the most important.

The Bible and Justice

The Bible says a lot about justice. In Proverbs 31:9, it says, “Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” This means that we should use our votes to help those who are poor and needy.

Love in Politics

Sometimes, politics can make us forget about love. But Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39). When we vote, we should remember to choose things that show love and respect to all people.

Conclusion

As voters who believe in the Bible, we should speak up for what is right and fight for justice and love. Our votes show our faith and our values. Remember what Micah 6:8 says: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Let these words guide us when we vote.
